School Overview
John Lemmer Elementary School has a student population of approximately 470 in kindergarten through 5th grade. Lemmer is one of four elementary schools in the Escanaba Area Public School District. The total elementary population for our district (K-6) is about 1400 students.
Elementary students receive instruction in the core subject areas of language arts, math, science and social studies. In addition the core subjects, students in grades 1-5 receive instruction in art, vocal music, physical education and technology once per week. Kindergarten students have music and two P.E. classes each week. Fifth grade students are also given the opportunity to participate in orchestra. Orchestra is an extra-curricular activity, and is offered twice a week.
Lemmer has two special education classrooms. One room is a resource room, and one room is a cognitively impaired classroom. These special education rooms service children who have special needs as determined by their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
All students in 5th grade (boys & girls) may participate in the elementary basketball program. This program is funded by the elementary school Parent-Teacher Organizations and the Escanaba Recreation Department.
