School Overview

Franklin Elementary School has kindergarten through fifth grade students. The staff is made up of: seven classroom teachers, one special education teacher, one Title I (Reading) teacher, one building assistant, two teacher assistants, itinerants for speech, art, physical education, technology and music, two foster grandparents, two noon-hour supervisors, one bus line supervisor, one food server, one secretary, one library clerk and one principal.

Children are assigned to the Franklin School based on their area of residence, educational need, or school of choice. If a student needs special educational services not offered at Franklin, or if the classroom enrollment is over the district’s limits, students are transferred to an appropriate school.

All of our classrooms are self-contained, with teachers providing comprehensive instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and health.

Orchestra is an elective offered to all fifth and sixth grade students, and band is available to interested sixth graders. Remedial reading and special education services are provided for all students that qualify. Substance abuse education is offered in sixth grade by the D.A.R.E. program.

A teacher assistant is assigned to grade one and kindergarten.

A building assistant is provided to help in grades 2-5.

A social worker is available upon request to the school. The school social worker provides programs for the students to help their self-worth and self-discipline. Parents are offered similar opportunities. Parents are encouraged to be involved with their child’s education through volunteering at school and participating in various school activities. Parents are requested to complete a Parent/Teacher/Student agreement at the beginning of the year.

A school nurse is assigned to the school one half day a week.
